BEHIND THE BRAND

A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER

THIS COLLECTION IS DESIGNED FOR THE CONFIDENT, SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS, MODERN WOMAN WHO SEEKS STYLISH, VERSATILE WORKOUT AND LOUNGE PIECES THAT FITS INTO HER LIFESTYLE ACTIVITIES.

I was around 7 years old when my mother first asked me to draw an outfit that she wanted to take to have made. I can remember accompanying her on tedious trips to the haberdashery on a Saturday morning, scouring the markets in the East End of London rummaging through rolls and rolls of fabric until her she found the desired cloth for her next Sue Ellen Ewing inspired creation. Then a bus ride to her seamstress in Dalston. This was my introduction to the rag trade.

I began my formal training in fashion at 16 when I started college. I studied alongside masterful elder garment constructors, to this day I carry that education, always thinking about the cut, seams and finishing. I continued my training to University in Manchester. After earning a Bachelors in Fashion. I was drawn to fashion styling and began assisting music and editorial stylists before going it alone. A few years in, I became disillusioned and unhappy. The cutthroat nature of the industry was not a place I could thrive. My mother encouraged me to start my own business. With the money she gave me. I found a workspace to rent in Shoreditch, signed up for a stall in Spitalfields Market and started selling my first Ndygo Genes pieces.

After having my first child that inspired Ndygo Child, until the opening of my children’s boutique Knock Down Ginger in Wanstead in 2008. I held on though the recession, but the store eventually closed. It was then I could see a more rewarding and purposeful life ahead, the seeds were planted for my next venture. Weaving all of my life’s passions into one, creating life changing retreat experiences; Les Bohèmes & Spirit of the Creatives and now Ndygo Retreatwear.

ABOUT OUR FABRICS

ORGANIC BAMBOO COTTON

We use a beautiful ORGANIC soft cotton made from BAMBOO YARN which we have personalised by having it naturally dyed and handprinted with the Les Bohèmes design. The breathability of the fabric is so good, its great for all seasons and climates. The stretch is firm and holds you in all the right places.

Hypoallergenic, natural bamboo doesn’t cause allergic reactions. Well suited for persons with sensitive skin. Bamboo fabric also has antibacterial and anti fungal qualities, perfect for workout clothing.

Bamboo fabric is breathable and odour resistant. The fabric keeps sweat off of your skin, absorbing moisture to keep you dry and feeling fresh.

Bamboo is the National plant of Saint Lucia.

ECONYL ® REGENERATED FIBRE

ECONYL ® regenerated fibre is made by recovering nylon waste - such as fishing nets from the oceans and aquaculture, fabric scraps from mills and carpets destined for landfill – and turning it into virgin quality nylon yarn for the fashion and interior industries. Perfect qualities for stretch fabrics for swim and activewear. They are surprisingly light, breathable, shrink resistant, have excellent compression and shape retention and high UV factor tolerance for sun exposure, meaning they won't fade and will fit your body like a glove.

RESPONSIBLY SOURCED PACKAGING

Our packaging is sourced with planet friendly materials, using non toxic inks and dyes and biodegradable non plastic bags.

INSPIRED BY OUR LES BOHÈMES HEALTHFULNESS RETREATS

The Ndygo collection was designed with the retreat experience in mind. From the morning yoga session to lounging in the pyjama circle before lights out. I particularly wanted to work with fabrics that had qualities of breathability, moisture absorption and UV protection due to the hot climates of our current retreat locations in Saint Lucia and Zanzibar. All The fabrics used in the collection are a great fit for needs of the event.
